OUR MISSION

A place for art, curiosity & connection

House of Clouds is driven by a simple yet essential mission: to weave living connections between artists from across the country and rural communities often distant from cultural opportunities. Here, everyone is welcomed in their uniqueness and creativity, whether amateur or professional.

OUR STORY

From cyanotype to theater, poetry to music, yoga to printmaking: in each room, a different art form breathes.
1964
The Beginning

Margaret and Thomas - parents of James - purchase "The Old Mill House," a former grain mill on the edge of the village. They spend nearly three years restoring the crumbling stone walls and wooden beams, transforming it into a home filled with light and warmth.

1985
A NEW GENERATION

James returns from art school in Paris and moves into the house with her partner Eleanor. Together, they begin hosting informal gatherings—poetry readings in the garden, music nights by the fireplace. The house starts to breathe creativity.

2003
Expanding the Dream

James and Eleanor renovate the old barn adjacent to the main house, creating open studios and guest rooms. It's here that the vision for House of Clouds takes root: a desire to share this space with artists seeking inspiration and community.

2016
OPENING THE DOORS

The first artist residency takes place. A sculptor, a playwright, and a photographer spend the summer creating, collaborating, and exploring. Word spreads quietly, and more artists begin to arrive, drawn by the spirit of openness and possibility.
